Khurram Parvez is a Kashmiri human rights activist, chairperson of Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances (AFAD), Program Coordinator of Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) and recipient of the 2006 Reebok Human Rights Award. At midnight on September 15, 2016, a day after being prevented from traveling to Geneva where he was scheduled to attend the ongoing United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session, Khurram was arrested without warrant and placed under “preventive detention”. On September 16, 2016 at 11:45pm he was transferred to Kupwara sub-jail 100km from his home. At the moment, “Khurram faces a serious and imminent security threat as every action of the State against him over the last three days has been of increased hostility and he is in an extremely vulnerable position today”.
The unlawful detention of Khurram Parvez is another example of systematic human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Khurram must be freed immediately .
